Karma Kelvin Centre is based in Thimphu, but the people it has supported are not confined to the capital. Distance, in this work, has turned out to be smaller than it looks on a map.
Context
Bhutan's geography makes some communities genuinely hard to reach — remote districts, difficult terrain, and distance from Thimphu can all make it harder for a family's circumstances to be seen or heard.
Outreach connected to Karma Kelvin & Team has extended into different regions of the country, including Dagana, Samtse and Trashigang — Karma's own home region.
What happened
Social media has played a real part in closing that distance: it is often how a story from a distant village first finds its way to someone able to help, whether that is a donor, a volunteer, or simply someone willing to share it further.
A message, a video or a shared post does not need a road to travel — and increasingly, that is how a need in one part of Bhutan reaches someone able to respond from another.
Why it matters
The principle underneath this is simple: support should not be limited to whoever happens to live closest to the capital.
Being based in Thimphu does not mean staying in Thimphu — it means having a fixed point from which to keep looking outward.
